Refrigerators are a major part of our everyday lives. Yet, there are instances when we don’t treat them the way we should. We have confidence in them to keep our food fresh, delicious and safe, so that we can relish them longer, but we don’t return the favor. Let’s start having a little respect for our refrigerators and the food inside. Here are some things you shouldn’t do with your refrigerator:
Do not keep your refrigerator too close to the wall or anything else because it can inhibit the air flow. Air flow is crucial for the usual processes of cooling.
Do not place it in a location where there is a lot of sun. The sun can heat the refrigerator and bleach its color.
Do not put the refrigerator anywhere near heat sources like stoves. This extra heat can easily wear out the motor, which would have to run twice as much trying to maintain the right temperature in the refrigerator. It would overheat from the extensive use, burn out, and you will be left with an extremely pricey repair or replacement.
Do not put the refrigerators on carpets. Carpets hold the heat and cause the compressor to work for longer periods of time and in higher temperatures. If the compressor works in that way, it uses more energy and can quickly break down. However, if you already have carpets in your kitchen, and can’t avoid putting the refrigerator there, try cutting out a piece of linoleum and slide it under the refrigerator. It won’t be visible and the refrigerator will work more fluently. Pay attention that you don’t bump into the condenser motor with the linoleum, because you could damage its blades and create a lot of harm.
Do not use extension cords. Your refrigerator should be plugged straight into the current. Cheap extension cords can run inadequate voltage and prevent the compressor from working properly. Soon it would break down.
Do not keep the refrigerator in places where the temperature is too low for longer periods of time. It can damage the sealed system of refrigerators.
Do not keep the refrigerator on its side. Keep this in mind when you are moving somewhere. The cooling system is made to stand upright and if you put it on its side it can lose the freon, or you can damage the condenser coils. In any case, you will ruin the refrigerator.
However, if it had accidentally been on the side, try keeping it upright for several hours before you plug it in and turn it on. This can help the oil go down to the compressor.
We all know the basics of appliance maintenance, but we have to remember that each appliance has various things that should be followed and refrigerators are not an exception of the rule.
We hope we helped you with our tips and hope you will keep them in mind when dealing with your refrigerators.
