Maytag MFF2558VEM is a great French door refrigerator with a likeable design and an amazing overall performance, though the inside doesn’t seem to high-end as the outside. It costs around $1,800. But can be found even for 1,500 on sale.
As far as its design and usability are concerned, we’ve mentioned already that the inside isn’t that great looking, as it looks like it was borrowed from previous cheaper models. The inside is recognizable to all former Maytag refrigerator buyers. There is a freezer drawer which rolls out from the bottom and is separated by a plastic divider.
Above that is an ice-maker which takes up a lot of space. You can find adjustable glass shelves and thin plastic drawers on top. The controls are placed on the inside at the top, and they offer an unclear, numerical system with a recommended setting of 4.
If you want to know the real temperature, you will have to buy a separate thermometer. It is very spacious and bright though.
With its 25 cu.ft. it has enough space for anything you can think of. The lighting is fantastic, because it is bright and clearly shows every compartment so that you don’t have to dig around when searching for something. There is very little or no noise from this refrigerator.
While this particular model of Maytag refrigerators present itself and an easy-to-clean refrigerator, don’t be fooled. Its crisper drawers can be rather sticky and the shelves are fairly heavy.
Of course, it demands bending down to get to the frozen things. If that presents a problem for you, maybe you should think about buying a side-by-side or a top freezer. The shelves are heavy because they are required to be hooked into slats at the rear.
Some Maytag models offer an exterior water/ice dispensers, but this one offers internal ice-maker and tray.
As far as its performance is concerned, Maytag MFF2558VEM can be proud of its performance, because there aren’t many temperature variations. It maintains almost steady temperatures all over the refrigerators, though the top shelves were a little colder that the bottom shelves.
Food temperatures were consistent without any fluctuations, and that ensured fresher foods for longer periods of time. We came to the same conclusion with the vegetable drawers – the vegetables kept a good deal of moisture, because the drawers have humidity controls.
To summarize, the lack of temperature fluctuations make this refrigerator a top model in our eyes. It does lack more features like water/ice dispensers or control panels, but it is still worthy of investing in it.
The most important thing is that it keeps the consistent temperatures in the refrigerator and in the freezer, and that is not something that can easily be achieved in any refrigerator. It is very energy efficient (expect your electric bill to drop), the refrigerator is not so hard to clean, and it is therefore a welcome addition to any home in search of a good refrigerator.
